Career Frontiers

Hello NHUHSD Students and Families:

 

Listed below is our upcoming Career Frontiers schedule until May 3rd. To participate in any field trip, students must have a signed field trip permission form (and a second form if you're observing a HSU class) turned in to me. Field trips have limited space and are filled on a first come, first served basis, or by teacher recommendations.  The evening events are open to all students and parents.  Please contact me if you have any questions about how to take advantage of these career and education exploration opportunities.

Exploration of leadership with HSU Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Cheryl Johnson, 11:25 - 12:20 in room 105 with AHS Leadership Class.

Career information with Nathaniel Tishman, 1999 AHS alumni and US State Department Foreign Service Officer, currently serving at the US Consulate in Guangzhou, China.  (Exploration about careers as a foreign diplomat) 2:27 - 3:20 in AHS room 105 with Mrs. Coriell.

Field trip to College of the Redwoods.  (Rotation to observe an assortment of CR classes to get a feel for different instructors and the difference between high school and college classes) 9:15 - 12:50 / Leaving from AHS

Exploration of leadership with Humboldt Area Foundation Director of Community Strategies Jen Rice, 8:10 - 9:05 in room 504 with MHS Leadership Class.

Field trip to present at the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors meeting and observe a court proceeding in the Humboldt Superior Court.  8:15 - 12:00 / Leaving from AHS

Thursday, April 4 A "Get Ready Humboldt" event that is open to the public

Panel:  Career Opportunities in the Arts.  6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the AHS library

Field trip to learn about the HSU Wildland Resources major.  We will observe the HSU Introduction to Animal Science (RRS 420) class, take a tour of the range/soils labs and then observe the Wildland Resource Principles (RRS 306) class.  8:30 - 12:45 / Leaving from MHS

Workshop: Job readiness insight and how to apply and interview for a job in a professional manner with Hensel’s Ace Hardware Owner Ceva Courtemanche, Arcata Chamber of Commerce Board Member Ken Hamik, and Kokatat Human Resources Manager Michele Bisgrove.  11:25 - 12:20 in the AHS library, co hosted by the AHS Leadership class and Pacific Coast High School. Sponsored by the Arcata Chamber of Commerce.

Panel:  A conversation about careers focused on sustainability with the HSU Business Administration Department.  (Sustainability = people, profit, planet, and purpose)  6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in the MHS library (Guests to be determined by invite from the HSU Business Department)

Northern Humboldt Union High School District Career & Education Fair

11:10 - 12:25 in the MHS gymnasiums  (Fifty five business, nonprofit, government, and education organizations will join us to share opportunities with students)
