Timothy David Oliveira

Hello! My name is Tim Oliveira, and I am the current Director of Technology for the Northern Humboldt Union High School District.

Education and Beginnings

I am proud to be a native of Humboldt County and a graduate of Arcata High School (Class of '02). After attending Chico State University, I completed my formal education by earning a degree in Network Administration from ITT Technical Institute.

My first time working in Education was with Northern Humboldt Employment Services as a Training Specialist alongside a nighttime custodial position at Jacoby Creek Elementary.  While not directly connected to Technology, the experience provided me with a strong foundation in educational support, which eventually led me to a part-time Computer Technician role at Fortuna High School.

Building IT Services

My time at Fortuna High School was defined by growth and impact. I was part of a two-person team, working alongside Derek DenOuden, and together we quickly earned a positive reputation for responsive and effective technology support. I was brought up to a full-time position within a month, reflecting the immediate need and success of our work.

I was then tasked with becoming the face of an initiative to expand our IT services to surrounding schools in the Eel River Valley. I worked on-site directly with staff to meet their educational technology needs. I am very proud of this work, which was successful in strengthening the connections and services between the various districts and the county.

Leading Technology at NHUHSD

In 2016, I moved back to Northern Humboldt Union to work under then-Director of Technology, Todd Curry. Throughout that year, I was welcomed and empowered by the incredible staff, and I began taking on increasing leadership responsibilities. I officially succeeded Mr. Curry, becoming the Director of Technology in the Summer of 2017.

As the current technology leader, I am committed to advancing our technological infrastructure to ensure it robustly supports the educational mission of the district and empowers every student and staff member for success.
